After several months of looking I finally found me a tractor. Look at all kinds of used hardware and now found what I want. A Used 1300hrs JD 970 compactr. It has a "slow attach" non JD loader on it. Now a need a few implements. Bush hog and finish mower. With approx 30hp at the PTO, what size mowers can I pull? Also what size rear blade is reasonable?

GWS, I would recommend a 60" brush hog and a 72" rear finish mower as good matches to a 970. The Bush Hog Squealer SQ-600 is a real good "light-duty" rotary cutter and should run $850-1000 with the optional slip clutch, and there are a lot of other good choices out there in cutters. Your tractor can handle a 72" rear finish mower, but you want to make sure that your lawn allows for that width to be used effectively. If you have a lot of trees and obstructions that are close together you may be better off with a 60" finish mower to save time on trimming. As far as the rear blade goes, your tractor can handle a 84" blade ok, but alot depends on what you are going to do with it and in what type of soil/material. If you are in rough stuff or want to do heavy work with it you may be better off with a 72" blade. Just one opinion. ....
